Abstract Collections

I think abstract art is like wine.

I don’t always get all the nuances, but I can always tell if I like it.

One of my dreams is to help curate and exhibit at an art show featuring a whole range of abstract pieces, each of them paired with a wine that captures their essence. It sounds like a blast.

The same subjects that inspire my landscapes and portraits inspire my abstracts; a murmuration of birds, wave spray on a rocky shore, the dancing petal of a California poppy.

My abstracts are often large, and they come out in a rush. Where my other pieces are exactingly planned and labored over for hours, many of my favorite abstracts build themselves over a series of short but intense sessions, usually in my studio garage with the door open and music blasting.

I tend towards negative space in these pieces, which is similar to my figurative work, and I retain my favorite color palettes. Texture is key- I love seeing brush strokes.
